Everything I've found concerning correcting this problem, including in this forum talks about how easy and wonderfully msizap corrects the problem. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated. I was comparing my Windows folder on C drive is 16 G and further investigation reveals that the Installer folder is 10 G by itself. My experience is beginner-intermediate, and I'm feeling like I'd best stop fooling around when I don't really know what I'm doing before I create a catastrophe for myself. As you can see from the data below, this folder is 2.22GB It takes up fully 20 of my entire (partitioned) C: drive, which is 10MB. I also went over the string with frustratedlan from earlier this month and read about msicuu2.exe on the MS website. The REAL problem for me is C:WindowsInstaller. I have studied the posting of the string with Dudemus from May 2008s on this subject and tried to run MsiZapU (with antiviral program turned off) - there was a fast flash of what looked like a bit of DOS screen, but nothing else. I have scanned with Norton Internet Sec & AV programs, and Antispyware Bot - both came up clean.

While I thought that could have been part of what led to rapid disappearance of HD space in the last several months, I find that the 7-8 GB series of files long preceeded the problems with SP3 & the HD attrition. I had difficulties installing SP3 properly for a couple months (with many aborted installations), but finally solved that 2 days ago with a successful installation. (and yes, a new laptop with more CPU, RAM & HD capacity is in my future).Īproximately 7-8 GB of the files in the Installer folder are msp files with the identical size of 117,116 KB, all placed in the folder on the same day & time (see attached screen shot) another 2 GB consist of 11,537 KB chunks that were similarly dumped on the same day & time more recently. My Windows/Installer folder takes up 11.1 GB, and I'm desperately storing work data and documents on an external hard drive until I can clear up some room.
